Let’s play a game, shall we?

Let’s play a game, shall we?

Inspired by Solonor’s post for BlogCritics entitled: Anti-Good, I’ve decided to trot out an old game we play here at our residence.

Long time readers of the Nook will remember this from earlier in the year, when I posted it on my BlogWorks version of the site.

The game? Stick a Song in Someone’s Head

The rules to this little game are simple: hum or sing a few bars of a song, and see if you can get it to stick in someone’s head. Bad songs are better than good songs, since we always seem to remember those first.

A true master of the sport can just name a song title to get it stuck in someone’s head.

For example, I submit to you all the number one song that Kim and I have found that is effective:

Come on, Eileen, by Dexy’s Midnight Runners. In particular, this part:

Come on, Eileen, taloora aye
Come on, Eileen, taloora aye
Come on, Eileen, taloora aye
Come on, Eileen, taloora aye
Come on, Eileen, taloora aye
Come on, Eileen, taloora aye

There are others that are equally effective, such as Girls Just Want to Have Fun, by Cindy Lauper.

There’s a cure for this malady, too. For me, I start singing Whole Lotta Love, by Led Zeppelin (particularly Page’s guitar riff that drives the song), and voila! no more Eileen . . .

What songs do you hate when they get stuck in your head?

  • For me, the most recent song stuck in my head that I absolutely HATE is that stupid McDonald’s song…

    Hi there Mr. Morning
    My favorite time of day
    blah blah blah happy time
    blah blah on our way.

    HATE IT!!!!

  • There is one that my sister gleefully repeated as we were growing up.

My baloney has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R.
My balony has a second name it’s M-A-Y-E-R.
Oh, I love to eat it every day,
and if you ask me why, I’ll say,
    cause Oscar-Mayer has a way with B-O-L-O-G-N-A.

Not quite a song but insipid all the same.

This one should work on you Scott…

Blackbird singing in the dead of night.
Take these broken wings and learn to fly…

    😉

  • Here’s one that I like, but it still gets stuck:

Oh, we’re the boys of the chorus,
We hope you like our show.
We know you’re rooting for us,
But now we have to go!

Quick! Name that Bugs Bunny cartoon!!!

  • “We had joy
    We had fun
We had seasons in the sun”

Neil Morse is a big fan of that 🙂

  • * “Just call me angel of the morning, baby …” I don’t even know the rest of the words but if I hear this one line it gets stuck in my head for the rest of the day!

    * Daddy pleaes don’t, it wasn’t his fault
He means so much to me
Daddy please don’t, we’re gonna get married
Just you wait and see” (Run Joey Run)

    * Also “Tomorrow” from Annie. I know ALL the words and now that I mentioned it I will NOT be able to fall asleep! AAACCKK!!! 😛

  • Hehehe. It’s an evil game, I tell ya!
