The Politics of Fear

Once again, ShrubCo rolls out Tom “The Sky is Falling, buy Duct Tape!” Ridge to lay it on thick:

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge is expected to say at a Thursday briefing that the al Qaeda terrorist group may be entering the “operational or planning phase of an attack,” an administration official said Thursday.

It’s believed, the official said, al Qaeda will attempt to strike before the November presidential election, the official added.

No new specific intelligence exists, and Ridge will not announce that he is raising the national color-coded threat level beyond the yellow, or elevated, level.

It was not immediately clear how the assessment of existing intelligence has led Ridge to his planned remarks.

Ridge will outline measures the country has taken to ramp up security, the official said.

On Wednesday, Ridge and other officials briefed House members about possible terrorism before the November election.

Wednesday’s “members-only threat update” — as described by a notice about the briefing — followed one Tuesday night at the White House for House and Senate leaders.

Another briefing is planned for all members of the Senate.

I’ve talked about this before, so it isn’t a surprise to me in the least. Hopefully all of those people who’ve seen Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 will see this for what it is.

Don’t get me wrong — I do expect attacks. The sheer lack of security on the borders practically guarantees this. I’m just tired of ShrubCo’s way of doing business. It’s time for a change in Washington, and Kerry/Edwards are the duo to bring about this change.
