So I walk in this morning to find a gift bag on my desk with a card in it. It’s from my supervisor, and it says, “Just a few things to say thanks. Here’s to a great year!”
And inside is mostly corporate schwag — pens, an odd “if it’s noon here it’s x:o’clock in this city” paper weight, an eyeglass repair kit (from our insurance company) and some other miscellaneous nonsense. Oh, and a glider I can build and toss around the office (well, I’ll do that).
Umm. I know we’re not getting raises this year, nor will there be profit-sharing and its unlikely we’ll get bonuses. But really, corporate/marketing crap?
I just checked with a colleague from DC and he got his last week. Apparently these are the gift bags from the cancelled all-trainers meeting last year. Hell, I even had most of the pens given me already. Some of the stuff even has the old firm name on it.
But hey, at least I have a job, right?
Don’t get me wrong — I love this place, and they’ve always treated me well, but really — this isn’t a morale booster.
